Giacomo Pettinari is the Executive Chef of the perfectly situated Ristorante Al Mare on the Santa Monica Pier and is considered to be a culinary expert and architect in Italian cuisine.
Giacomo grew up on the Adriatic Coast of Loreto, Italy. He discovered his passion for food while watching his mother at a very young age. At age 14, he enrolled in Panzini Culinary School, one of the top culinary schools in Italy, graduating at 19.
At 20, Giacomo moved to London where he worked for two years with the famous Chef, Fabio Trabocchi, in the two star Michelin-rated restaurant, Floriana. It was there he learned the Art of Fine Dining and the Importance of Presentation.
After London, Giacomo moved to Barcelona and worked with Ferran Adria, who invented molecular cuisine and is considered one of the best Chefs in the world. From there Giacomo went to Bangkok, Thailand to learn the Art of Sushi.
At the age of 26, Giacomo was told that Piero Selvaggio, the owner and Chef of Valentino’s in Los Angeles, California was looking for a Chef. Instead of sending a resume, he flew to Los Angeles, cooked for Selvaggio, and was hired. He worked as a Chef at Valentino’s for 4 years.
In July of 2009, Giacomo was hired as the Chef of Trastevere Restaurant in Santa Monica. Within a month-and-a-half of working at Trastevere, the company made Giacomo the Executive Chef of their three restaurants, Trastevere in Santa Monica, Trastevere in Hollywood and La Piazza at The Grove.
Chef Giacomo Pettinari currently devotes his time to the Santa Monica Pier’s newest and most stylish eating establishment, Ristorante Al Mare. The restaurant features a stunning kitchen layout and design. Every detail in the kitchen from the oven to the flatware was designed and hand picked from start to finish by Chef Giacomo Pettinari.
At the coastal Ristorante Al Mare, where one can enjoy the panoramic ocean views, Giacomo’s current menu features delicious, authentic Italian cuisine, the kind one would find while vacationing in Italy. Following the principles of his mother, Giacomo like to “Keep the flavor real and authentic.” The menu includes salads, appetizers, delectable entrees that include handmade pasta, fish and meat. The food is light, healthy and prepared with organic ingredients whenever possible.
